Gerard Manley Hopkins is one of the more challenging poets on the Leaving Certificate English course. Stylistically, he may be considered too difficult for many students who may also struggle to relate to him thematically. In this session, Claire will demonstrate why she believes Hopkins should be taught to a Senior Cycle class while also sharing strategies to breakdown and simplify his poetry.

Claire Cotter is an English and History Teacher in Christian Brothers College, Cork. She also works as the school's SEN Coordinator. Claire holds a Masters Degree in International Relations from the School of History in UCC. She co-hosts a successful weekly podcast called 'What's the History?'. Claire has over twelve years experience teaching English and history at Junior and Senior Cycle.
